Syracuse police release name of Westhill High School student killed in car accident

The Syracuse Police Department has released the name of a Westhill High School student who was killed early Saturday morning in a crash between an SUV and Centro bus on Comstock Avenue.

Anna Pullano, 18, of Syracuse, died at Upstate University Hospital due to injuries from the accident, according to an SPD news release. She was a senior at Westhill High School.

The crash happened at about 12:43 a.m., when a Centro bus hit a DMC Denali that entered its path.

SPD identified the bus driver as Richard Dowell, 57, of Syracuse. Centro released a statement early Saturday, expressing condolences to the family. The statement also said there was no alcohol in the driver’s system.

The hashtag #PrayersForPullanos began circulating at about 11 a.m., with family, friends and Westhill community members posting their condolences. There are plans for a vigil to be held at 9:30 p.m. Saturday at Westhill High School’s football field, according to numerous posts on social media.
