As one of the most Irish cities in America, Syracuse offers plenty of activities to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, even before the holiday actually takes place.
For over 60 years, Coleman’s Irish Pub has hosted Green Beer Sunday on the last Sunday of each February to kick off the season. The 4-mile Shamrock Run in the Tipperary Hill neighborhood is another way to start the holiday celebrations early, and takes place the week before St. Patrick’s Day.
Heading into St. Patrick’s Day weekend, The Daily Orange has answers to all your questions about events to celebrate the holiday in Syracuse.
Where’s the parade?
Syracuse’s St. Patrick’s Parade is a 170 year old tradition, dating back to 1855. The parade’s theme this year is “Irish in the 315!” to honor Syracuse’s Irish community.
Mayor Ben Walsh is the parade’s Grand Marshal, and the Gael of the Year is Meg O’Connell, who led the establishment of Salt City Market in 2019. There will be floats and a line-up of businesses, nonprofits, clubs and organizations featured in the parade.
Salina Street will be blocked off prior to the parade, but most lots and garages will be open for parking.
The parade officially begins at noon on Saturday. A map of its complete route can be found here.
Looking for a restaurant or bar to stop by?
Syracuse’s dining and bar scene has a range of options for Irish cuisine. Kitty Hoynes will have live music from Shawn Halloran and Neil Emberg throughout the day, as well as Irish staples like corned beef and Irish coffee. Salt City Market will offer Irish-themed merchandise.
You can also head to Tipp Hill, which hosts several pubs within a few blocks of each other. Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, a shuttle will run from downtown to Tipp Hill at 250 S. Clinton St. The shuttle will run until 7 p.m. Saturday.
Want a St. Patrick’s Day party?
Along with the parade, the Syracuse Marriott Downtown will host a parade party, starting at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Admission is $15.
The Sky Armory is hosting its annual parade party from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There will be live music, Irish dancers, food and drinks. Tickets are $10 for general admission and $5 for children. Tickets are available in advance here.
