Desk attendant

$7.25 per hour (Federal Work Study)

Sitting in the information desk at Schine or in residence halls, these student employees are responsible for answering any questions that people in their building have, from where other buildings are on campus to names of specific campus groups.

‘You pretty much have to know everything,’ said Lisa De La Rosa, a junior psychology major who works at the front desk of Schine. ‘I like being able to help people, but it sucks when you don’t know the answer to the question.’

Resident student adviser

$7.25 per hour (FWS/non-FWS)

RSAs sit at the main entrance to your dorm, but RSAs do more than sign people into dorms. They monitor and control access to the dorms, protecting residents and making sure only designated people enter.

‘I like RSA because it’s the easiest GPA booster that I can find on campus … Study time per week can easily be tripled (with this job),’ said Mike Andrew, a junior information technology major and newly hired RSA.

Library assistant

$7.25 per hour (FWS)

Library assistants are in charge of organizing books and helping fellow students with their library needs. ‘You get to make your own hours and that’s great, but you’re not allowed to do your homework, so it’s kind of boring,’ said Yadira Duran, a junior psychology major and Bird Library assistant.

Carrier Dome concessions vendor

$9.05 per hour (FWS/non-FWS)

‘I love it because it’s one of the most exciting jobs on campus. You make money and you get to cheer on your favorite collegiate teams as a job. It doesn’t get any better for a Syracuse fan,’ said Gustavo Marte, a junior architecture major who works in the Dome. Telefund Caller (FWS and non-FWS)

$7.90 an hour with the option of raises and bonuses; flexible hours

Call alumni and parents of SU students for The Fund for Syracuse donations, as well as organize records of donors and give updates on what’s going on around campus.

‘Students get the opportunity to have a job off-campus in a school in a community-based organization working with kids learning about the community they live in and learn in other than the Hill,’ said Bobbi Gillen, assistant director of Literacy Corp.

On-campus tutor:

$8.50-12 an hour (undergraduate) or $12-17 an hour (graduate), depending on level of training and if session is one-on-one or group tutoring (FWS/non-FWS)

Work one-on-one with fellow SU students wherever and whenever you please. As an additional bonus, you get to review familiar school content you may have otherwise forgotten over time. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for all who apply, and students can pick the hours they work. For honor students, this job also counts toward community service.
