Vice President Joe Biden will be speaking at Syracuse University on Thursday as part of “It’s On Us” National Week of Action. The campaign aims to end sexual assault on college campuses.

Here are five things you should know about what Syracuse University does to support victims of sexual assault and prevent sexual assault on campus:

1. Case managers in the Office of Student Assistance support both victims of sexual assault as well as students who have been accused of violating the code of conduct as it relates to these issues.

2. The Counseling Center at SU provides confidential counseling and advocacy services to all SU and State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry students 24/7, 365 days a year. These services include emotional and psychological support and explaining to students their various reporting options.

3. The university’s efforts in improving the prevention of sexual violence are being supported and advanced by the work of Chancellor Kent Syverud’s Task Force on Sexual and Relationship Violence, which he appointed in April.

4. The Office of Health Promotions has a Peer Education Program aimed at creating safer spaces that support peers who have been targeted by sexual and/or relationship violence, according to the office’s website.

5. The Sexual and Relationship Response Team, which is part of the Equal Opportunity, Inclusion and Resolution Services, offers privileged and confidential crisis counseling, referrals, advocacy, safety planning and ongoing assistance to students, according to the office’s website.
