Student Association VP candidate Roy Tin apologizes to Angie Pati for running mate’s debate comments

Editor’s Note: Student Association vice presidential candidate Roy Tin submitted the following email he wrote to opposing vice presidential candidate, Angie Pati, as a Letter to the Editor to The Daily Orange.

Dear Angie,

Hope all is well with you.

I cannot further express my apologies to you, on behalf of (Student Association presidential candidate Tyler) Rossi, myself and our entire campaign.

I am reaching out because I would like you to understand that I personally do not agree or condone with what Rossi said about your experience last Sunday.

In my opinion, you are one of the most qualified candidates to run for office, I have the utmost respect for you and what you are standing for, and it is my honor and privilege to be running against you in this election.

It was never our intention to run a negative campaign targeting any individual, I have read the open letter that you posted in The Daily Orange and I would really like to apologize to you once more for what Rossi uttered last debate. It was not only rude, unprofessional but shameful, to be very honest. I had no idea why he said it and tried to demise your capability. Please understand that this is not at all I personally feel about you.

Moreover, I would like to thank both you and (Student Association presidential candidate) James (Franco) for having pointed out the flaws in Rossi’s argument as to why we do not support the “sanctuary campus” bill. From what I have gathered from one of the current SA members, the bill itself is, so to speak, a symbolic gesture to extend our arms to invite and welcome students with any backgrounds to come to enjoy our Syracuse community. I believe that what Rossi was trying to illustrate from a financial statement is the correlation between the bill, title IV, and potential federal funding allocation. The way that he presented it was not only immature, but it sort out displayed his personal lack of understanding regarding this bills and some other bills and papers that the school is working on right now and I would like to apologize for that as well.

Angie, I think it is fair to say that the absence of both VPs during the Sunday debate, demonstrated the lack of balance in the administration. Now writing you this email, I just wanted to once again clarify my stance and apologize to you once more if Rossi or my campaign had made you uncomfortable in any sense. I hope that you will accept my apology.

Looking forward to the debate on Monday.

Sincerely,

Roy
