Christmas earns ACC player of the week honors for showings against Wake Forest, Clemson

Syracuse’s Rakeem Christmas was named the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week on Monday, the conference announced.

The Orange’s senior forward earned the award, which is voted on by a select media panel, after scoring 35 points and tallying nine rebounds in SU’s 86-83 win over Wake Forest on Jan. 13. He followed that performance with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Orange’s 66-53 loss to Clemson on Saturday.

Christmas is now averaging 18.3 points and nine rebounds per game. He also won the award on Dec. 29 after standout performances against Long Beach State and Cornell.

He is the first SU player, other than himself, to win the award since Trevor Cooney took it for the week of Nov. 11, 2013.
