Search for next chancellor unaffected by Cantor’s early departure

Chancellor Nancy Cantor’s decision to leave Syracuse University on Jan. 1 to become the chancellor of Rutgers University’s Newark campus will not affect the chancellor search committee’s timeline.

“All I can say is that nothing has changed in our timetable,” said committee chair Joanne Alper in an email. The search committee is responsible for finding SU’s next chancellor with the help of consultants from executive search firm Spencer Stuart.

The committee will be interviewing candidates throughout the summer, Alper  said. The process is anonymous and guarantees candidates their confidentiality, in order to protect their current positions at other institutions. Committee members hope to start meeting candidates in person by the end of July.

The current timeline on the chancellor search’s website expects a new chancellor selected by winter 2013.
