Grant makes Team USA U-19’s final cut
Jerami Grant is now set to travel to Prague, Czech Republic, with the U.S. Under-19 national for the U-19 FIBA World Championships.
It was announced Monday night that he made the final 12-man roster selected by Jim Boeheim, Bob McKillop, Matt Painter, Lorenzo Romar and Curtis Sumpter. Florida head coach Billy Donovan will coach the team after winning the U-18 world title last summer. Grant is one of five players on this team that was featured on that squad, too.
Grant played in all 40 games last season for Syracuse, averaging 3.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. When James Southerland was suspended, though, he averaged 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.
The U-19 World Championships will be played June 27-July 7. Team USA is in Group D with China, the Ivory Coast and Russia. The top three teams in each of the four groups advance to the eighth finals.
If the U.S. advances it will face the other top two teams from its own group and the top three teams from Group C. The top four teams from each of those groups are then seeded and play off in the single-elimination quarterfinals.
The U-19s will finish training at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., training twice Tuesday and once on Monday before departing for Washington to train from June 20-22 and flying to the Czech Republic.
Team USA begins group play at 2:15 p.m. ET against the Ivory Coast on June 27.
