Syracuse will face NEC champions Bryant in the first round of the NCAA tournament Sunday night in the Carrier Dome.

Syracuse will play Bryant in the first round of the NCAA tournament next Sunday after drawing the No. 1 seed on Sunday night’s NCAA men’s lacrosse championship selection show.

“I think they’re like everybody else, they’re going to be a really good team,” SU assistant coach Kevin Donahue said. “They’ve got a great faceoff guy, and I don’t know much else about them, we’re going to have to watch a lot of film.”

The Orange (13-3) will host the Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. If SU advances it will play the winner of No. 8 seed Penn State and Yale in the second round on May 18. The Orange won its second straight Big East championship Saturday with a 13-9 win against Villanova at Villanova Stadium.

SU is playing for its 12th national championship, though the NCAA only recognizes 10 as Syracuse had to officially vacate its 1990 title due to player ineligibility. Its most recent championship came in 2009.

If SU does not win the title, this year’s senior class will be the first to not win a national championship since head coach John Desko took over in 1999.

The Orange began the season ranked No. 12 after barely making the NCAA tournament last season and losing to Duke in the first round.
