Fight after South Campus party leads to stabbing

A man was stabbed early Friday morning during a fight at a party on Syracuse University’s South Campus.

The victim, a 19-year-old man, had been stabbed multiple times, said Syracuse Police Department spokesman Sgt. Gary Bulinski. Police responded to the incident at a ‘large house party’ on the 500 block of Slocum Drive at 1:25 a.m., Bulinski said.

The identity of the victim and whether he was an SU student has not been released. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Rural Metro ambulance. Ambulance crews also picked up a 24-year-old man with stab wounds from Slocum Drive, according to an article published online Friday by The Post-Standard, but Bulinski said he had heard no report of a second stabbing victim. Rural Metro could not be reached for comment.

No Public Safety Notice was sent via email to students, although DPS typically does not do so unless a reported crime presents an ongoing danger to students. The university is not in regular academic session, but some South Campus apartments are occupied during the summer by students taking summer classes or those on campus for athletics.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 442-5222.
